Medical
Physics faculty and students participated in a workshop on
Monte Carlo simulation using the High Performance Computing
cluster on April 9 at 10.
The
workshop was organized by Dr Nabil Maalej, associate
professor in medical physics, and conducted by Dr. Wamied
Abdel Rahman, a medical physics faculty at McGill
University. Dr Wamied did his BS in physics at KFUPM and his
MS and PhD in medical physics at McGill University With
the help of the HPC staff, Dr. Wamied installed and tested
the EGSnrc software on the HPC. EGSnrc is a Monte Carlo
Software developed by the Canadian National Research Council
(NRC) and is a very powerful research tool in the field of
medical physics. Dr. Nabil Maalej hopes in the future to do
cancer patient radiation dosimetry studies using parallel
computing at the HPC.
